FINALLY...the Awaited Diaper Purse Tutorial

Well Amber, I finally did it. The tutorial is ready! Boy, I never realised how difficult it is to explian something you do without really thinking about it. Photos help, yes, but not as much as you would think. Let me know if you have any feedback/queries.

The purse pictured is for ME! Yep I finally made something I don't intend to give away...just yet anyways. I was so excited by how it all came together. A few disappointments, I'll admit, in the final finishing, but that's what I get for rushing...besides I think I'd be the only one that notices. I hope. Such a Virgo...perfection, perfection.

Diaper Purse for ME

Please, any interested others, use this pattern only for personal use not for making purses to sell. This pattern took me a long time to perfect!

  1. Yay Yay & Yay! I'm off to take a look then add it to my list of 'to dos'. I'm pretty sure it is going to push some of the others on my list further to the bottom ;)

  2. That tutorial is fantastic. 1st read & I was like..WTF? 2nd read and I think I have a good idea as to the construction process. We'll see when I start my own huh!
    Two questions:
    1. Can you take a photo of the bag over your shoulder so that I can see how big it is in proportion to your body?
    2. What fabrics would you recommend?

  3. Fabrics...well I think anything would work...just nothing too light weight or poen weave. I think a durable fabric on the exterior is probably a good idea. I've got some softish/medium weight vinyl I thought would be cool...you could probably eliminate the batting if you use a heavy weight exterior fabric. If you used something with a slight stretch you could probably really cram the purse full. So far I've used light and medium weight denim for the exterior and quilters weight cotton and a medium weight twill for the interior. I really think most fabric would work.

  4. Thanks. I'm going to make it out of black canvas fabric (I'm guessing medium weight) & light cotton print for interior (the sock monkey one I used for Giles' neckerchiefs). I went to buy batting and they recommended some iron-on batting that was just about the same price. I can't wait to start.

Thanks for the photos too! It is so much more compact that I thought given how much you can put in it. Very impressed!!! Will post photos as I progress through.

Thanks for giving me yet another WIP!

  11. Hi, the link works but it only goes to the one picture, and doesn't explain the rest of the process to make the bag. I would also love to have the tutorial. :) I spent about 4 hours last week googling through the images of "diaper purse" to see if your pictures could be found on flikr and if I could put them together to create the tutorial... alas my search was in vain. I love love love the idea though and really want to make one. :D
