Into the woods.....Red Riding Hood Cape

Aren't these photos of wee Bonny just beautiful. My wonderful friend and photographer Candy approached me a few weeks ago and asked if I could make her wee girl a Little Red Riding Hood Cape. Of course I leaped at the chance! She and I played around one weekend (with all 5 kids screaming around in and out of the house) with a pattern & by dinnertime the Little Red Riding Hood Cape was born.

Once Candy posted these photos to her Facebook page, I was thrilled to get two custom orders for similar capes. One has made it's way to a young lady named Millie, the other to a wee babe who is still to small to wear it but I know little Ruby will get a lot wear from it in the years to come.

So here they are, my Little Red Riding Hood Capes.

The capes were made from the most luxurious wool/flannel blend (80/20) and lined with a stunning sunny yellow cotton print. Inside you'll find two pleated pockets to keep all your girly treasures. I did see something (or someone) lurking deep in the bottom of one pocket. Millie & Ruby, I'd watch out putting my hand down in there if I were you!

If you love these as much as I do, I have a special treat! I have one extra cape (shown below) which is ready to ship. This cape would best suit a little girl with a big imagination (age 2-5). Visit the store or drop me an email if you are interested.

I had to show you my new hair clip model.

He came outside today & wanted two red clips on each side of his head. Of course I obliged and took photos.

Poor guy, I'm going to have do much ammunition got his 21st. He's just so damn cute though.

Here is a pick of the other hair clips I made last night.

I'll list them in the MollydagMade store soon.

Upcycled Bermuda Shorts

Lets start this post by saying....."This humidity is killing me!" Ok, I know there are plenty of others out there who live with this daily, or who are in even worse situations than me but for a Perthite this is pretty rare. It's currently 41C and bleh humid. It seems there is a cyclone off the coast that is scheduled to cross right through Perth on Sunday. I've lived here for over 25 years and I don't ever recall a cyclone coming through town. Ohhh, just as I'm typing the rain is beginning to fall!!! Geeze I hope there isn't any clothes on the line. Better go check.......

Nope all good. Now where was I? complaining about the weather...that doesn't make for an interesting crafty blog post so here goes with some sewing..........
Size L shorts, size 5 shirt - here on a 7 yr old
Ok, with all this heat we've been locked up in the house with the aircon & TV going so I've been sewing like a mad woman. I have made up 4 pairs of these Bermuda shorts and I'm really happy with. They are so uber groovy don't you think?

How cute are these 2 tushes!

I made a couple of similar pairs for The Boy months ago (looking back it was October, time flies), then a pair for a little buddy who turned 4 in January. I loved them so much I though I would whip up a few pairs and see how they go in the store.

Dork Boy stylin his pair of Upcycled shorts

These new shorts are a little more refined & professional- fully lined pockets, adjustable waists, double stitched side seams etc, and I'm really happy. Who knew that a scant few years ago I could barely sew a straight line!

SET 1 - Black & White check:

SET 2: Rockin' it in Lemon

I'm going to add them to the Facebook & Madeit stores so we'll see how they fare.

Because of the long-length cut of the shorts, I decided to make all the shorts with adjustable waists to make the shorts able to fit the widest range of kids.

Sizes available will be:
LARGE - 25cm inner seam, fits ages 4-7
MEDIUM- 20cm inner seam, fits ages 2-4
SMALL - 15cm inner seam, fits ages 12mth-3
Of course this is just a guide, best you measure the length of your wee man and make your choice from there.

Whew, what a pic heavy post. I'll have to scour around to find more shirts, I love this new gig!

Tulle Pom Pom Puffs

Ohhh I think I've fallen in love!

How cute are these little Tulle Puffs? These pompoms are made with the same uber soft tulle the FruFru TuTu was made from and they puff out at about 5cm (2inches).

While they can be worn as is, the Puffs would look great on a headband or used to embellish your beanie, hat or even your dress (see note below).

If you want to check them out, they are listed in the MollydagMade Store. I'm listing them for $9.50 for a set of 2 a huge array of colours. You can even order a custom colour combo!

Note: Check out this photo of Miss T, I tried to show you what they look like on a simple white singlet but she insisted on wearing both. Mark & I both think she looks like she is wearing misplaced pasties! Not a good look!

A Frufru Tutu - Custom order for Lucy

These tutu bodysuits first made their appearance in 2008, oh my that was a while ago.
When I was recently asked to do a custom order for a gal who has a little baby girls and who is very into pink I thought back and remembered these. Don't you think layers upon layers of super soft tulle is perfect for that little princess?!

This bodysuit is a size 000 and has 4 layers of soft pink tulle. Each piece of tulle has been hand sewn to  elasticised trim, allowing extra movement through the butt. The top layer of tulle has been sewn onto pink trim to give it an extra special finish. To top it all off, a pink heart has been appliqued to the chest.

I wish I had made one for Miss T now. Perhaps I can work my fingers to the bone and get one ready in a size 2 in time for her birthday.
Lucy, if you think this would suit your friend, shoot me an email. I'll show you what I came up with for the twins in my next post.
